Barnett Spins Chidd to victory
vs Withyham - 6 June 2009

Chiddingstone won the toss & elected to bat. The openers eased to 61 off the first 10 overs . Tom Saxty & young James Bowen taking the punishment dished out by Harry Streatfeild who was in excellent form. The breakthrough came unluckily for Streatfeild when a fierce drive from James Lockwood struck the bowlers (Phil Adams) right boot & deflected onto the stumps with Harry Streatfeild out of his ground for a flawless 40. The top order all made runs James Lockwood (45) & Sam Streatfeild (22) & a partnership of 54 between Fred Quirk who top scored with 63 & captain Rob Littler (31) took the score to 220-4 in 34 overs. Then came what is known as a chidd out. 6 wickets for 19 runs & the home side missed out on Max batting points by 1 run. Tom Saxty came back well to finish with 4-60 well supported by Tim Wenham 2-29. Chidd keeper Geoff Medhurst Left wondering what he had done to upset the captain after opening the previous week in the victory over Leigh & left not out batting at no 10.

In reply Withyham also got off to a flying start with Mike Whitehead tucking into the Chidd openers. Rob Littler soon took himself off fearing worse figures than Ian Bishop the previous week. This proved to be a good move as he brought on veteren leg spinner Phil Barnett who accounted for the dangerous Mike Whitehead (30) & Mark Smethurst who smashed a quick fire 42. At 102-2 after 17 overs the games could have gone either way but Barnett took out the middle order to finish with 5-31 from his 9 overs. Rob Littler returned & dismissed Phil Adams for a well constructed 42 & then polished of the tail to finish with 4-37 & the innings closed on 151.
